Our 'K1' heavy weight wool tartans are ideal for traditional kilts, furnishings, or any use requiring a robust finish or strong pleating.

We weave this in 15oz yarn, which we think is the perfect weight for a kilt. Its feel and pleats are far superior to common 13oz 'medium' weight wools, without the sometimes daunting weight of a 16oz or 18oz 'regimental' fabric.

Our heavy weight fabrics are more tightly woven than is usual from other mills, at 40 threads per inch. This takes more wool and more time. But the result is both smoother and more robust with a quality you have to feel to truly appreciate.

Our K1 Heavyweight range is of course woven with a natural selvedge, the traditional finish that is rarely produced elsewhere today.
